Long Live Summer and Lizzie Fortunato

1 Oct

It’s officially fall, but for me the carefree, sun-drenched days of summer live on–in the form of Lizzie Fortunato accessories.

I stumbled across Lizzie Fortunato’s spring/summer 2012 collection, and I’m kicking myself for not discovering it sooner. Inspired by mid-century SoCal architecture, the Italian leather clutches with geometric embroidery, enamel cuffs, and embellished necklaces are Coachella-chic at it’s finest.

I think these pieces could transition quite nicely into fall, don’t you? Better late than never!

Bringing Fashion Back: Nordys New SLC Digs

21 Mar

Hungry for fashion? Uh, yeah, you could say that.

Those of us living in downtown Salt Lake City have been starved for style for some time now. But not for long. Today, the new City Creek Center opens, including the swanky new Nordstrom.

I got a sneak peek inside the City Creek Nordys during Tuesday night’s Grand Opening Gala, and the new digs did not disappoint. Highlights of the store include Gucci accessories and apparel boutiques, Balenciaga handbags (aka my new best friends–I will be visiting them on a weekly basis), and designer collections by Alexander Wang, Alice + Olivia (you already now I’m a fan), Burberry Prosum, Jason Wu, and more.

At last! Downtown shopping that’s actually downtown. Welcome back to the neighborhood, Nordys–you’ve been missed.

p.s. Love Ruben Toledo’s illustrations for Nordstrom (like the one above).

Tiny Wrappers: Diane Von Furstenberg x Gap Kids

19 Mar

Fashion favorite Diane Von Furstenberg recently launched her girl’s collection for Gap Kids, and the pint-sized threads are pretty much cuteness overload. I mean, DVF signatures like wrap dresses reimagined as tiny wrap rompers? Too cute.

See more of the DVF x Gap Kids collection here. With prices starting at just $20, I might have to try to squeeze my way into a girls XXL.

Favorites from New York Fashion Week: J.Crew Fall 2012

28 Feb

It’s taken copious amounts of coffee and some very late nights glued to my laptop, but I’m finally starting to work my way through all the finery from New York Fashion Week. (A little late to the party, I know.) I’ll be sharing some of my favorites from NYFW so you can revel in the delicious new designs right along with me.

My first NYFW post should come as no surprise considering my last post was about the same designer and collection: J.Crew Fall 2012. The Manolo Blahnik collab wasn’t the only fabulous thing to emerge from J.Crew’s new fall collection: staples like pretty pencil skirts, patterned sweaters, and slim trousers were shown in fresh mint, perky pink, sleek snakeskin, stripes, and rich jewel tones. Plus, there was some seriously cool arm candy added to the mix.

Minty Fresh
Whether a little (zig-zag top, pointy-toe pumps) or a lot (turtleneck sweater + pencil skirt combo), mint green is a refreshing alternative to fall’s more traditional forest and olive green hues.

Pencil It In
From textured stripes to sleek snakeskin, a statement-making pencil skirt will score you an A+ with the fashion set next fall. (Note the fantastic multi-hued clutch on the right!)

Pretty In Pink
Pink isn’t just for spring and summer fashion–a slim suit, warm coat, or patterned pants in the perky hue are sure to cheer you up (and those around you) on the drabbest of drab days.

Top to Bottom
Head-to-toe prints can be hard to pull off, but these two ensembles look sleek and sexy, not silly.

Jewels Rule
Rich, saturated jewel tones–sapphire blue, emerald green, ruby red–look all the more luxe in the form of high-shine slim-cut trousers. (Again, note the fantastic handbags!)

Jenna Lyons, I love you.

Sole Mates: J.Crew x Manolo Blahnik

17 Feb

Oh Em Gee. While catching up on all the latest from New York Fashion Week, I read this article from WWD that confirms J.Crew and Manolo Blahnik are joining fashion forces! Talk about a power couple.

The word officially hit the runway at J.Crew’s Fall ‘12 fashion presentation, where editors, bloggers, buyers, and photographers got the first peek at the pointy-toe pumps. The Crew x Blahnik collab will feature 41 styles, which, in true Jenna Lyons fashion, will include bold colors, tweed, suede, and glitter.

No word yet on when the shoes will be available, but they’re expected to sell online and in select J.Crew stores. The price tag? $595 to $645. Better start saving my Benjamins.

Wu-Hoo! Jason Wu for Target Hits Stores Tomorrow

4 Feb

Sure, the Super Bowl is tomorrow, but the real reason I’m excited for Sunday? It’s the day Jason Wu for Target officially hits stores, and I want to be smack-dab in the middle of that fashion action.

If I wake up early enough (note to self: set alarm clock!), I’m hoping to score the Jason Wu for Target black pleated skirt, navy floral skirt + sleeveless top with sheer panel, poplin dress in navy, and flared dress in cream.

Yes, Jason Wu for Target Sunday is sure to be no less exciting–or dramatic–than the big game. A few competitive shoppers may even tackle each other over the last remaining Jason Wu blouse…

There Goes My Paycheck: The Kaiser Launches KARL at NET-A-PORTER.COM

26 Jan

Yesterday, Karl Lagerfeld launched KARL at etailer NET-A-PORTER.COM, and the collection is Karltastic.

Looks from the KARL collection at NET-A-PORTER.com

The downtown chic collection includes removable collars, leather jackets, biker vests, sequined shorts, metallic sandals, and, in true Lagerfeld fashion (pun intended), fingerless leather gloves. It’s everything you’d expect from the king of couture but at approachable off-the-rack prices. So many fabulous pieces, so few pennies to spend…

Column 1: Jeren French terry and PVC pullover, Sachi pleated faux leather skirt, metallic leather wedge sandal, sequined poplin collar; Column 2: Judit profile-print racer-back jersey tank, silver-sprayed skinny jeans; Column 3: Ossie two-tone-leather biker vest, printed canvas shopper

Adios paycheck! Surely I can live on nothing but Top Ramen and tuna fish for a few weeks, right?

If I Were a Boy

12 Jan

I’d pair a patterned sweater vest with a plaid blazer and a pocket square…

I’d wear red leather driving gloves and carry a Goyard man-purse, er, satchel

And I’d dress up my scruffy salt-and-pepper beard with a sharp, gray and white double-breasted blazer…

Happy 235th Birthday, America!

4 Jul

The Fourth of July is by far my favorite holiday. What’s not to love about a day filled with BBQs, beers, and fireworks? Plus, you can get away with wearing outfits like this:

Show some love for the stars and stripes.

Circles of Love: Stella McCartney Fall 2011

8 Mar

Stella McCartney showed her Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear Collection on the catwalk yesterday at Paris Fashion Week. I can’t get enough her black and white polka dot frocks. Equal parts sweet, silly and sexy, there are plenty of circles to love.

Throw in a dalmatian (a cute fireman couldn’t hurt either) and you’re ready for a serious strut around the block.
