There Goes My Paycheck: The Kaiser Launches KARL at NET-A-PORTER.COM

26 Jan

Yesterday, Karl Lagerfeld launched KARL at etailer NET-A-PORTER.COM, and the collection is Karltastic.

Looks from the KARL collection at NET-A-PORTER.com

The downtown chic collection includes removable collars, leather jackets, biker vests, sequined shorts, metallic sandals, and, in true Lagerfeld fashion (pun intended), fingerless leather gloves. It’s everything you’d expect from the king of couture but at approachable off-the-rack prices. So many fabulous pieces, so few pennies to spend…

Column 1: Jeren French terry and PVC pullover, Sachi pleated faux leather skirt, metallic leather wedge sandal, sequined poplin collar; Column 2: Judit profile-print racer-back jersey tank, silver-sprayed skinny jeans; Column 3: Ossie two-tone-leather biker vest, printed canvas shopper

Adios paycheck! Surely I can live on nothing but Top Ramen and tuna fish for a few weeks, right?

Grab Bags: Longchamp x Mary Katrantzou and Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama

23 Jan

Bag ladies, rejoice! Two new handbag collaborations have me jumping for joy.

First, Longchamp x Mary Katrantzou. The French brand and the Greek designer are combining forces to create a colorful new line of handbags launching TODAY at the impossibly cool Paris boutique Colette. (Lucky for those of us stateside, you can order online from the chic shop).

Second, word on the street is luxury label Louis Vuitton will be teaming up with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, known for her poppy polka-dot art, to create a new line of handbags this spring. Actual designs are yet to be released, but if LV’s mutlicolor-monogram and cherry blossom bags are any indication, the “polka-dot bag” is bound to be a hit.

Start lifting those dumbells now ladies, because you’re gonna want your biceps in tip-top shape to tote around these beauties!

Film, Fashion, and Farasha

20 Jan

Yesterday the annual Sundance Film Festival kicked off in Park City, Utah. If you find yourself in Park City this weekend and have some downtime between watching films, skiing, boarding, boozing, and, celeb stalking, stop by the Farasha pop-up boutique at The St. Regis Deer Valley and get your shop on.

You may not be a movie star, but you can still dress like one, right?

p.s. – Be sure to watch the cool (literally) Sundance-inspired fashion video on the Farasha website.

All Hail Kate the Great

19 Jan

Happy (belated) birthday, Kate the Great!

In honor of Kate Middleton’s 30th birthday last week, the Washington Post compiled 30 of the Duchess’s greatest fashion hits.

I adore Kate’s elegant, princess style. I love her most in preppy, polished pieces, brightly hued frocks, and regal evening gowns. The queen-bee-in-the-making can rock Zara and Jenny Packham with equal panache (two of my favorite labels–talk about a girl after my own heart!), and she knows not just what to wear but when to wear it.

Aside from the dress, here are my eight favorite Middleton fashion moments as highlighted in the Post’s post:

The princess looked simple, chic, and stunning in this nude-hued Reiss dress for her first meeting with the Obamas. (How does she get those glossy locks?!)

What’s not to love about this military inspired Alexander McQueen ensemble?

Last summer, Kate sat court-side at Wimbledon and wore a tiered white dress by Temperley London. Can you say love, match?

Kate proved she was a true fashion ambassador when she donned a red fascinator with a maple leaf for Canada Day during her North American tour.

Beautiful and elegant in a hand-painted Jenny Packham dress and nude sandals.

Does it get more glamorous than a black strapless velour Alexander McQueen dress (and two handsome princes in tuxes)?

Kate looked positively brilliant in a bright-green belted dress by Diane von Furstenberg during her trip to California last fall.

And perhaps my favorite Kate Middleton fashion moment to date: a glittering blush-hued Jenny Packham creation. Divine!

I expect great things from Kate in the future–I can’t wait to see what she wears next!

If I Were a Boy

12 Jan

I’d pair a patterned sweater vest with a plaid blazer and a pocket square…

I’d wear red leather driving gloves and carry a Goyard man-purse, er, satchel

And I’d dress up my scruffy salt-and-pepper beard with a sharp, gray and white double-breasted blazer…

Clutch Hitters: R29 Reserve x Clare Vivier Limited-Edition Clutches

12 Dec

The style mavens at Refinery 29 scored a major home run when they collaborated on these limited-edition R29 Reserve + Clare Vivier clutches.

I love me some leopard, but the neon pink stripe clutch is my favorite–it’s the perfect combo of timelessness and trendiness.

These clutches would be fantastic gifts for any fashionistas in your life (including yourself), but you better snag ‘em quick–December 19th is the last day to order these babies online.

Must. Buy. Now.

Channeling My Inner Bad Ass: Balmain Spring 2011

18 Apr

If I weren’t a writer, I would be a rock star. Or at least, I would like to be a rock star. Unfortunately, I can’t carry a tune or strum a guitar. Fortunately, I can wear studs and leather with or without a stage and a microphone. (Looking the part is half the battle, right?)

This biker-chic look by Balmain is just what I need this spring to unleash my inner Mick Jagger–and still look like a lady.

Rock on.
